Creating Windows 8/Windows 8.1 Recovery USB

Do you know that you can use SD card or MicroSD card other than USB pen drives.
More or less, Recent laptops comes with SD Card reader inbuilt and you can make use of it.

For MicroSD, Use the adapter. If you have a USB card reader, It will also suffice.

The trick I would like to share is, How to use your existing 16GB card/Drive take a backup and then free it.
As a matter of fact, Once you take the backup, You need to preserve the card/Drive till the life time of the Laptop. But not any more, Read on….


Warning
Creating a recovery drive will erase anything already stored on your USB flash drive. Use an empty USB flash drive or make sure to transfer any important data from your USB flash drive to another storage device before using it to create a USB recovery drive.


Prerequisites
1. SD Card/MicroSD/USB Pen Drive – 16Gb.
2. External HDD (Nice to have)
3. Internet Connection

Steps to Create
1. Take a back of your existing SD Card/MicroSD/USB Pen Drive into External HDD
2. Follow the steps in the below link and Create the recovery USB

3. Download Image USB
   http://www.osforensics.com/tools/write-usb-images.html
   Store a copy of the zip into your External HDD

4. Run Image USB and
   1. Select your USB Drive/SD/MicroSD,
   2. Choose ‘Create from UFD’ Option ,
   3. Specify file name into your External HDD (Bin file)
   4. and Click RUN


  Now, The content of the USB is stored in the Bin file.
  Note: This is not simple copy, It is sector by sector, etc.
         Equivalent of ISO of CD/DVD.
5. Optionally, You can upload the Bin file into a Cloud Storage.
6. At the end of the completion, You can format USB Drive/SD/MicroSD and restore the orginal contents from External HDD and enjoy Using.

Steps to Restore
1. Take a back of your existing SD Card/MicroSD/USB Pen Drive into External HDD
2. Run Image USB and
   1. Select your USB Drive/SD/MicroSD,
   2. Choose ‘Write to UFD’ Option ,
   3. Specify name of the bin file you have created from your External HDD (Bin file)
   4. and Click RUN
3. At once Bin is written into USB Drive/SD/MicroSD, Follow the windows 8 recovery procedure.

4. At the end of the restoration, You can format USB Drive/SD/MicroSD and restore the orginal contents from External HDD and enjoy Using.
