The lapdock is a screen, keyboard, battery pack, USB hub in one nice ultraportable laptop case.  Specifically it has USB out for its hub, the keyboard and trackpad are on the hub.  The screen is a HDMI display.

Well guess what, the Pi has HDMI out, and USB plugs.  All you need are the correct connectors.

The Lapdock has male micro usb and HDMI plugs where the cellphone would dock in.  I picked up a 12″ micro HDMI extension cable (male-female) and 12″ micro USB extender.  I also picked up a microHDMI female to HDMI male adapter, and the same thing in a USB adapter.

The Raspberry Pi has a micro USB power plug…but the latest version can take USB power through the normal USB ports also…and this allows the Pi access to the Lapdock hub/keyboard.

Experiencing SSD

Step #1 – Buy one

Recommended size – 128GB or 256GB

Step #2 – Adding SSD to your laptop

You can either swap out the existing HDD with SSD or add SSD as an secondary drive (In the case of Laptop, Swap with Optical Drive with HDD Caddy).

HDD Caddy is a case for a hard drive which you can mount inside your laptop. This case fits perfectly in the bay where normally your optical drive (dvd-drive) is located. This allows you to exchange your optical drive with the HDD Caddy. Read more…

Type #1 – HDD Can be removed Separately without opening back panel

In this Model, HDD can be removed/replaced.

Type #2 – HDD Can only be removed by opening back panel
eg. Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p
In this Model, HDD can be removed/replaced only by opening the back panel and may void the warranty. Alternatively, Check out HDD Caddy and add SSD as an secondary HDD (Swap with Optical drive).

Step #3 – Cloning the drive

Clone factory installed Windows 8 to a new empty SSD using free version of Macrium Reflect

Step #4 – Disable internal HDD

Its highly recommended to disable the Internal spinning HDD when SSD is added as secondary HDD. Tweak based on your own requirements.

To disable internal HDD in windows,
1. Make sure that you boot from SSD (Change BIOS Settings – Boot Order),
2. Open device Manager – Control Panel > System/Advanced System Settings, Click Device Manager button in the Hardware Tab.
3. Expand and Choose the Internal HDD (Under Disk Drives). Internal drive is identified by its name/make/capacity. Details are available in Volume tab in properties dialog (Right click on the Drive and choose Properties in the popup menu.
4. Right click on the Internal HDD and Choose disable option in the popup menu.

Finally, Belt up and experience the speed.
